ENHANCED ALERTNESS — 12/12 FCOM ROWS · 13 DRILLS
Numbered as the FCOM lists them. The card body arms the case on this bench; ▶ FLY IT is on every row: it arms that cockpit, performs the crew action for you, and then FREEZES on the result — one reversion, start to finish, in one press.
V/S selection in ALT* DO Pull the V/S knob while ALT* is engaged. SEE ALT* leaves, V/S engages on the rate being flown — and ALT goes blue. The CAPTURE is gone; the ARM is not, so it still levels at 10 000. That is the trap. FCTM Losing ALT* is not losing the level-off. What you lose is the managed capture — the aeroplane now arrives on YOUR rate, and 1 000 fpm into a 200 ft capture overshoots. ▶ FLY IT · START HERE
SPD selection in SRS DO Pull the SPD knob in SRS. SEE No mode changes. The triple click IS the alert — that is the whole point of this row. ▶ FLY IT
CLB (or EXP CLB) to OP CLB, upon lateral flight crew action while climbing toward a constraint DO Pull the HDG knob while in managed CLB. SEE CLB → OP CLB, and the constraints go with it. Lateral boxed white 10 s. FCTM Altitude constraints are observed ONLY when the climb is managed — i.e. only while CLB is on the FMA. Any other vertical mode disregards them. (FCTM PR-NP-SOP-140) ▶ FLY IT
ALT* to V/S, upon ALT target change DO Turn the ALT knob more than 250 ft while ALT* is engaged. SEE V/S engages on current rate. Do nothing for 5 s and the click comes. ▶ FLY IT
FD disengagement in open modes DO AP is out and you are NOT following the bars. Wait. SEE The speed runs to VMO+4 and both FD bars disappear. A/THR takes SPEED. ▶ FLY IT
Alerting FMA display when V/S-(FPA) target is not held — the climb · VLS DO An excessive V/S is already selected. Watch the speed. SEE AMBER flashing box round the V/S target and the value PULSES. V/S stays engaged. FCTM Whenever V/S is used, pay particular attention to the SPEED TREND — V/S takes precedence over speed requirements. (FCTM PR-NP-SOP-140) ▶ FLY IT
Alerting FMA display when V/S-(FPA) target is not held — the descent · VMO DO An excessive rate of DESCENT is already selected. Watch the speed. SEE The speed runs up to VMO, an AMBER flashing box comes round the V/S target and the value PULSES. The rate is given up to hold the limit — 4 000 selected, less than that flown. V/S stays engaged. FCTM Whenever V/S is used, pay particular attention to the SPEED TREND — V/S takes precedence over speed requirements. (FCTM PR-NP-SOP-140) ▶ FLY IT
CLB to OP CLB reversion, upon profile loss DO Press LOSE NAV (a discontinuity ahead, or the box drops the profile). SEE CLB → OP CLB. You did nothing — that is what 'unexpectedly occur' means. FCTM The constraints go with the mode. After this the box no longer protects your level-off. (FCTM PR-NP-SOP-140) ▶ FLY IT
Automatic FD re-engagement in basic mode DO Established on the ILS, AP1 in — press LOC/G/S LOST. SEE AP1 drops out on its own. The bars stay, now HDG V/S. Only the FMA and the AP light say so. FCTM The beam must be gone 7 s, and you must be above 200 ft RA. Below that the modes are kept. ▶ FLY IT
DES to V/S upon flight plan loss DO Press LOSE NAV while in managed DES. SEE V/S engages ON THE CURRENT RATE. The book: it does NOT change the pitch — that is yours. ▶ FLY IT
FINAL DES to V/S, upon NAV loss DO Flying the managed non-precision approach — press NAV LOST. SEE FINAL goes to V/S on the rate you had. APP NAV goes to HDG. The AP keeps flying. FCTM FINAL is the VERTICAL mode; APP NAV is its lateral half. FINAL APP is the pair, not a column. ▶ FLY IT
Reversion to AP/FD basic modes due to the selection of a new approach, while approach mode is already armed or engaged DO Established on the ILS — press SELECT NEW APPR. SEE Straight to HDG V/S. The AP stays in and flies a heading nobody chose for the approach. FCTM Above 400 ft only. And the new approach is NOT armed — the crew must press APPR again. ▶ FLY IT
NAV to HDG, upon NAV loss DO Press LOSE NAV in an OPEN mode. SEE ⚠️ NAV → HDG and NOTHING vertical moves. An open mode already ignores the plan. ▶ FLY IT
